YMCA hosting Tai Chi classes
The Forest City YMCA is excited to be hosting Dr. Glen Hepker, owner of the Mason City Tai Chi Kung Fu and Health and Wellness Center LLC, and practioner of Tai Chi. Dr. Hepker will be teaching two introductory sessions of Tai Chi class at the Forest City Y, the first begins Feb. 7.
This six-week introductory course is designed to improve strength, balance, flexibility, and mobility through slow therapeutic movements.
According to Mayo Clinic, “Tai chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing.” Older adults and those with chronic health conditions often feel they must accept impaired balance and limited mobility—this is not true. Dr. Hepker describes the goal of his teaching as one of “wellness of the body, mind and spirit.”
The Forest City Y will be offering two six-week introductory sessions beginning Thursday, Feb. 7, at 10:20 a.m. For more information, and cost of the class, please call the YMCA at 641-251-5220 or visit www.forestcityymca.org.
