2017 Rice Lake Ikes/LMHS Trap Team

The Lake Mills High School Trap Team finished a good year strong, as they placed 37th, out of 186 teams competing at the State Tournament, held in Cedar Falls, June 11.
At the State Tournament, the first team (Jace Johnson, Drae Love, Logan Prescott, Michael Wallin and Hunter Tritch) earned the 37th place finish, by hitting 917 of a possible 1000 targets. Individually, Michael Wallin led the way for the team, hitting 195 of a possible 200 targets, to finish 16th. Wallin was followed closely by Hunter Tritch (184), Ashten Love (183), Drae Love (180), Logan Prescott (177), Jace Johnson (174), Jackson Rice (164), Kiara Hahn (136) and Kylee McGurk (108). Clay Hagen, Gabe Irons and Rachael Holst, did not participate in the State Meet.
Coach Gary Irons, is already looking forward to next season, which he believes will be strong.
“There were 12 members of the trap team, with only one member graduating this school year,” he said. “Next year should be a very good year, with many veteran shooters returning.”
Prior to the State Tournament, there were a number of highlights for the team, including: a second place finish at Garner and a third place showing at the Emmetsburg invitational.
“We were very competitive in all the tournaments that we shot in,” Irons noted.
2017 marked the first year that trap shooting was recognized as an official school activity, which allowed them to utilize school transportation to and from meets, and be eligible to earn letters, at the end of the season.
“We had a great season, and worked with a great bunch of student athletes,” Irons concluded.
