Tipping the Scale

As regular readers may have noticed (or will notice upon publishing of this column), there has been a distinct lack of “new” on my end, in regards to the state of the public sphere and the current and onoing global crisis. While it is important to remind ourselves of the facts and remain aware and vigilant and up-to-date on the situation we are all facing, it is crucial to strike a balance; and that also goes for this column.
While it is most notably an opinion piece, having been inundated (as we all are) with so much of “the same,” my thoughts have been veering in the opposite direction of late, and I am eager to get back to more creative pursuits while inspiration is ignited. However, this means that my column may be (and likely already has been) lacking in the coming weeks, as the scale of my writing tilts to more fantastical, extraordinary pursuits and imaginative worlds that are becoming more and more a source of comfort in the stark reality of the world as it is now.
So, to all those that appreciate this column and offer your compliments (which mean more than you know—filling my father’s shoes has been a learning experience, and I’m undeniably still learning), please accept my apologies for the lack of content this week and possibly in weeks to come. My writing roots are, without a doubt, firmly in the soil of creativity and expression, and after more than a year of struggling to find motivation, I may have (fingers crossed) finally—in the midst of quarantine—found something to preoccupy my thoughts and happily/eagerly pursue to fill the dull moments that become more frequent each day.
It’s not how I would have wanted it, of course, but I am happy to be back in my happy place.
Here’s hoping it lasts.
And here’s hoping my columns won’t suffer too much as a result.
