Wallace “Wally” Burton Winden

July 20, 1927 – March 27, 2020

Wallace “Wally” Burton Winden 92, Lake Mills, passed away Friday, March 27, 2020 at the Lake Mills Care Center. Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time. It was Wally’s choice to be cremated and inurnment will take place at Bristol Township Cemetery, rural Joice. at a later date. Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Otto Chose American Legion Post #235.
Wallace Burton Winden was born July 20, 1927 in rural Winnebago County, to parents Adolph and Minnie (Bergen) Winden. He attended and graduated from Joice High School.
In December of 1950 Wally was inducted into the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant in December of 1952.
On June 26, 1976 he was united in marriage with Adelaide “Audy” Thea (Folken) McKee in Minneapolis, Minn.
Wally was an honest and hardworking man who believed in serving God, caring for his family, and showing respect for his country. He was a longtime member of Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills. Wallace provided for his wife and family by farming for almost 50 years. He enjoyed gardening and was known to catch a fish or two. And he never lost sight of his dedication to his country; Wally was a member of both the Otto Chose American Legion #235 and the Joice VFW.
In addition to his outdoor hobbies, Wally also collected model tractors and tinkered with and restored old machines. He had a fun sense of humor, and the staff at Lake Mills Care Center tell us they appreciated his upbeat attitude.
He is survived by his two step-children: Lon (Cindy) McKee and Peg McKee (Dean Adams), all of Bloomington, Minn.; grandchildren: Bart (Sarah) McKee,= Shakopee, Minn.; Kelly (Scott) Parrish, Appleton, Wis.; and Meredith Westin, Minneapolis, Minn.; great-grandchildren” Bryson, Ashley and Isabel Parrish and Maggie and Mac McKee; sisters-in-law: Clarine Moe, Lake Mills, and Harriet Winden, Fertile; special nieces” Ila (Don) Grothe and Rita Anderson, both of Lake Mills, and Pamela Moe, Elkins, W.V.; and many extended relatives and friends.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Adelaide “Audy” in 2008; and his brothers: Marvin and Richard Winden, both in 2005.
