Virginia Mae (Field) Thomas was born Aug. 31, 1925.
Virginia directed the Salem Lutheran Senior Choir for 32 years and was also involved in other music ministries at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. She was a member of the Iowa Choral Directors’ Association for 25 years, and directed the Lake Mills Community Chorus for 27 years. With her dear friend and associate, Ginny Kingland, they formed Ginny, Ginny & Company and they produced programs for the Chorus to entertain the Community. The Advent Choral service was especially anticipated. Highlights for the chorus were performing at four inaugurations for Gov. Terry Branstad, the Johnny Mann Festival Singers at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, Minn., and being a guest choir at the Basilica of St. Mary, also in Minneapolis.
She helped with fund raising for the refurbishing of the LMHS auditorium, including restoring the antique organ and the purchasing of the 13’ grand piano. She was on the Board of Directors for the building of the Norwegian Immigrants Monument.
Virginia is survived by sons: Mark (Sheri) Thomas, Stillwater, Minn.; and Gary Thomas, Ham Lake, Minn.; granddaughters: Kelli (Curt) May and Jenni (Josh) Voge; and precious great-grandchildren: Croix, Saylor and Sidney, all of Cottage Grove, Minn.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
