Virgene V. Hockenson
Virgene V. Hockenson, 64, formerly of Forest City, passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, at Jackson Ridge Healthcare, Maquoketa. A private family inurnment will take place in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, west of Scarville. Schott Funeral Home Mittelstadt Chapel, Lake Mills, is assisting Virgene’s family with arrangements.
Virgene Virgil Hockenson was born Sept. 29, 1959 in Albert Lea, Minn., to parents Virgil Elden and Faye Marcia (Flatrud) Hockenson. He attended school in both Scarville and Lake Mills.
On July 24, 1987, Virgene was married to Sylvia Ann Hettenbach at St. James Catholic Church, Forest City. The couple made Forest City their home, divorcing after over 30 years of marriage.
Virgene worked various jobs throughout his lifetime, from factory work to farm hand. He enjoyed camping, having coffee at Hardee’s, and connecting with his AA group in Forest City. Virgene looked forward to the annual Hobo Days in Britt, where he could be found assisting the cooks, and proudly earning the title of “Crumb Boss.”
Survivors include his two sisters and their families: Virginia (Dan) Kesler and Carrie (Scott) Hanson, all of Lake Mills; five nieces and nephews: Ryan (Shannon) Kesler, Brent (Tiffany) Kesler, Lauren (Brandon) Smeby, MaKenna Hanson and Kinser Hanson; seven great-nieces and nephews: Teah and Tenley, Jaxon, Sawyer and Dayton, and Clara and Holden; aunt and uncle, Nylene and Ken Mannes, Lake Mills; along with numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Faye Hockenson; and a brother, Paul Hockenson.
