Steven Alan Midlang
Steven Alan Midlang, 64, Davenport, passed away peacefully at his home Friday, April 2, 2020.Tentative plans are to have a memorial service at a later date and his ashes will be buried in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Lake Mills, with his parents Virgil and Elaine Midlang. Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time.
Steve was born at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minn., to Virgil and Elaine (Jensen) Midlang on Sept. 20, 1955. Steve graduated from Lake Mills Community High School in 1974.
After working for many years at state liquor stores, he attended Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids. He graduated with a paralegal degree and worked with Lane and Waterman Law Firm, Davenport, for 27 years, retiring from his career in 2018. He was a valued employee and took great pride in his work.
Steve enjoyed listening to music and sharing that interest with family and friends. He was a chess enthusiast, collected guitars and enjoyed playing both. Reading and tennis were also passions of his. He loved to tease his nieces and nephews and assisted with many toy-assembly projects after a visit from Santa. He also had a vast appreciation for home-cooked meals.
He is survived by four siblings” Sheryl (Jack) Stanley, Adel; Brian Midlang, St. Joseph, Mich.; Tim (Teresa) Midlang, Lake Mills; and Carolyn (Alan) Schneberger, Ames; six nieces and nephews,” Matt (Courtney) Stanley, Greenfield; Jenny (Eric) Moore, Bloomington, Minn.; Alicia Midlang, Ankeny; Brad Midlang, Lake Mills; Christina Midlang, Ankeny; and Andrea Schneberger, Ames; and two great-nieces and two great-nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; one nephew, Scott Midlang; and one niece, Rachel Stanley.
