Stanley S. Stover

Stanley S. Stover, 83, Albert Lea, Minn., formerly of Lake Mills, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017, after a four-year long battle with multiple myeloma, at the Mayo Clinic Health System. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 22, at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, with Pastor Joel Guttormson officiating.Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. at the church prior to the service.Inurnment will take place at Salem Memorial Cemetery, Lake Mills, with military honors performed by Lake Mills Otto/Chose American Legion Post #235. Services are being trusted to Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills.
Stanley Sherman Stover was born April 21, 1933 in Ashton, S.D., the son of Grover Cleveland and Genevieve (Gardalen) Stover. He graduated from Thompson High School in 1951. He was a four sport athlete and won the contest for naming the new baseball diamond giving it the name, “Cubs Field.” He later attended Iowa State University.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
On Jan. 17, 1959, he was united in marriage to Judy Johnson at the United Methodist Church, Wells, Minn. Together, they farmed and raised their family in the Leland area.
After retiring from farming, Stanley worked for several years at Metal Culverts, Albert Lea, Minn., as a welder. He was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills Lion’s Club, Leland VFW, the Winnebago County ASCS, Lake Mills Elevator Board and was a 4-H Leader. He enjoyed many fishing trips, flying with his son Randy, and visiting with his coffee buddies.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Stover, Albert Lea, Minn.; sons: Randy Stover, Tokyo, Japan; and Rick (Angie) Stover, Story City; and daughter, Sandy (Bob) Hanna, Geneva, Minn.; grandchildren: Becky (James) Reams, Erlanger, Ky.; James Stover, Florence, Ky.; Nick Stover, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Amanda Hanna, St. Louis Park, Minn.; and Spencer Hanna, Geneva, Minn.; great-grandson, Jameson Reams, Erlanger, Ky.; brother, Loren (Hilma) Stover, Bluff Springs, Ill.; along with several cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Steph Hanna; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert (Buzzy) and Anita Johnson; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Kay and Harvey Matson.
