Stanley LeRoy Holstad

Stanley LeRoy Holstad, 79, Lake Mills, passed away from cancer, Sunday, April 16, 2017, surrounded by his family in his home. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, April 23, from 1-3 p.m. at the Truman Helgeson Civic Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be given to Hospice of North Iowa in Stan’s memory.
Stan was born Jan. 7, 1938, at home to his parents, Morris and Alice (Brunsvold) Holstad. He was baptized and confirmed into Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1956.
After graduation, Stan worked odd jobs, leading up to his 10-year career at the lumber yard, followed by a 32-year career at Fleetguard, Lake Mills. While working at Fleetguard, Stan held a place on the golf league, where he shared many games and many memories with his co-workers and friends.
On May 22, 1965, Stan married his wife of 52 years, Barbara Ann Haugh, at St. James’ Catholic Church, Forest City. They were blessed with the lives of three children. Family, golfing, and fishing were the cornerstones of Stan’s life. When his children were young, they enjoyed spending time on the lake fishing together. As he developed his game, he also developed a love for the time spent out on the golf course by himself and with his loved ones. In the time when he wasn’t golfing or working, Stan could be found creating woodworking projects. His passion was show his creativity and skill through his art and he enjoyed sharing it with others.
Stan’s three children, 10 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. He always lit up as soon as they would come through the door. Fortunately, all 10 of his grandchildren were able to share in his last moments.
Stan will forever hold the memory for being a tough man with a strong work ethic. He loved to tell stories and have a good laugh with those around him. He will also be remembered for loving his family unconditionally.
Survivor’s of Stan’s life include his wife, Barbara Holstad; his three children: Steven (Stacey) Holstad, Eagan, Minn.; Terri (Steve) Meyer, Joice; and Amy (Les) Prange, Wells, Minn.; his 10 grandchildren: Ray (Starr) Fjelstad; Cameo (Beau) Honsey, Riverside; Ben Meyer; Jake Meyer, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Sierra Holstad, San Francisco, Calif.; Andy Meyer; Hannah Holstad, Lake Mills; Caleb Prange, Conner Prange, and Riley Prange, all of Wells, Minn.; five great-grandchildren; five siblings: Artis (Vernon) Holstad, Plano, Texas; Gwen (Lee) Brown, Rockford, Ill; Harold Holstad, Albert Lea, Minn.; Eldren (Janell) Holstad, Spencer; and Richard Holstad; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Stan is preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Alice Holstad; brother, Martin Holstad, Union City, Tenn.; and sister-in-law, Jeannie (Neilson) Holstad, Albert Lea, Minn.
