Ruth Inez McDaniel Blaylock

April 29, 1924 – February 15, 2021

Ruth Inez (McDaniel) Blaylock, 96, Holmen, Wis., formerly of Coon Rapids and Lake Mills, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, at Bluffview Memory Care, Holmen, Wis. A private family service will take place at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, Saturday, Feb, 27, with Rev. Rob Lanphere officiating. A public graveside service will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery, Lake Mills, beginning at approximately 1:35 p.m. The family requires that face coverings be worn and social distancing be observed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Asbury United Methodist Church and Cemetery, Lake Mills, or to the First United Methodist Church, Coon Rapids.
Ruth was born April 29, 1924, to Otto and Cliffie (McKelvey) McDaniel in Knob Noster, Mo. She graduated from Knob Noster High School in 1942 and completed Business College in Chillicothe, Mo., before working several years for the QuarterMaster General in Kansas City, Mo., during and after WWII.
On June 2, 1948, Ruth was united in marriage to O. Roye Blaylock by his father, Rev. O.A. Blaylock in Knob Noster. The couple soon moved to Lake Mills, where Roye was the high school vocational agriculture instructor for many years. There, they spent the most years raising their four children. Ruth was very active in the Methodist Church and with other interests. They lived in Orange City before settling in Coon Rapids for many years. Ruth quickly became active in many church and volunteer activities including her favorite, the P.E.O. women’s organization.
Ruth and Roye became world travelers through the years having visited all 50 states and all Canadian provinces. They also toured Europe with his former Army Group through England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Ruth was even privileged to Kiss the “Blarney Stone” in Ireland.
Ruth is survived by daughters, Diane (David) Hooker, of Wisconsin; and Debra Morton (special friend, Rick), of Minnesota; son, Dean Blaylock, of Iowa; grandchildren: Gina (Bryan) Potter, Wendi (Brandon) Dandeneau, Shaundra (Jamie) Schwiderski, Brandon Morton (special friend, Gina), and Brett (Sandy) Morton; and great-grandchildren: Ella, Autumn, Abigail, Mckenzie, Avery and Bentley.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roye; daughter, Donna Lamb; grandsons: Brian and Joseph Hooker; sister, Rosemary McDaniel; sister-in-law, Lynnel Lane; and brother-in-law, Dale Blaylock.
