Roger A. Monson
Roger A. Monson, 79, Lake Mills, passed away Monday, June 3, 2019 at the Hancock Memorial Hospital, Britt. A memorial visitation will be held Friday, June 7, from 5-7 p.m., at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, with military honors by the Otto Chose Post #235 and a final fire call by the Lake Mills Volunteer Fire Department.Inurnment will take place at a later date.
Roger Allen Monson was born March 14, 1940 at home in Winnebago County to parents, Carl and Fern (Fogue) Monson. He attended country school through the 8th grade and then began helping his dad on the farm.
On Nov. 25, 1958, Roger joined the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas, white sands proving grounds. After his honorable discharge Aug. 24, 1961, Roger continued to help his dad farm.
He was united in marriage with Cheryl Barnett from Clear Lake, and to this marriage, two children were born, Laura “Lori” Monson and Daniel Monson.
Through his early years, in addition to helping on the farm, Roger had several jobs until he began his career with Peoples Natural Gas in Lake Mills. He was employed from 1967 to 1996, retiring due to health concerns. He was a proud volunteer fireman for the Lake Mills Fire Department for 20 years from 1967 to 1987, and helped with the Boy Scouts when Dan was younger.
He is survived by his daughter, Laura “Lori” Monson, Lake Mills; three grandchildren: Ryan Pedersen, Lake Mills; Zac (Amber) Crail, Lake Mills; and Brandy Crail, Lakota; six great-grandchildren: Neveah Vera, Isaiah Vera, Nathan Crail, Bianca Chiguil, Faith Crail and Paityn Crail; two sisters: Bonnie Berndt, Glenville, Minn.; and Carol Engstler, Garner; sister-in-law, Jackie Monson, Forest City; special friend, Eva Trebil, Lake Mills; and numerous aunts, nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Fern Monson; son, Daniel Monson in 2018; brother, Marvin Monson; two sisters: Arleen and Maxine; and four brothers-in-law: Bill, Max, Warren, and Lawrence.
