Roger Keith Thompson

Roger Keith Thompson, 79, passed away in his sleep Sunday morning April 17, 2016 in Texas. He was a loving husband to his wife, Julie, and father to his daughters; Sonia and Lori, all of Spring, Texas. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 23. at 10:30 a.m., at Oak Hill Cemetery, Hancock, Iowa.         In lieu of flowers please direct all memorials to the family.
Roger was born Feb. 9, 1937 near Lake Mills, to Melvin O. and  Olga (Vermedahl) Thompson.
From mid-1955 until mid-1957 Roger served during peace time in the United States Army. He attended the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, and completed his Bachelors of Arts Degree in business.
Roger was employed with the Good Samaritan Nursing Homes in a variety of towns and states. He enjoyed participating in the Chamber of Commerce activities and with the local churches. He was proud of his Norwegian ancestry and was also proud to serve his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Roger had retired from being a teacher and a nursing home administrator in 1999, when he moved to Texas to live near his family. He loved life and helping others.
Roger is survived by his wife, Julie: daughters: Sonia Shepherd, and Lori (Michael) Hritz, all of Texas; brother, Don, Ohio; two sisters: Ardis, Nevada; and Darlene, Minnesota; plus many other family members and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Marlin.
