Roger D. Thorson

Roger D. Thorson, 70, Scarville, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Muse Norris Hospice Unit, Mason City. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 26, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Scarville, with Pastor Randy Baldwin and Pastor Kevin Olson officiating.  Burial was held in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Scarville.Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, was in charge of arrangements.
Roger Dean Thorson was born May 19, 1946, to Selmer and Nettie (Bergland) Thorson, in the Forest City Community Hospital. He attended school in Scarville through sixth grade, and finished grades 7-12 at Lake Mills Community School. Roger graduated with the class of 1964.
Throughout the years, Roger had various jobs including working at Wilson’s Meat Packing Plant, farming with his dad, Selmer, working at Compack Coffee, Deluxe Products, and at a tile factory. Roger also worked at a few different places as a meat cutter (Scarville, Joice, and Kiester). He drove an end-loader in the peat bog, and worked as a hired man for area farmers Gordy Anderson and Richard Oulman.
Roger enjoyed going to rummage sales and auctions, as well as picking up sticks with his lawn mower.
Survivors include Lynnette Kleveland; a brother, Arden (Delores) Thorson, Northwood; a sister Nancy (Richard) Helland, Emmons, Minn.; brother-in-law, Leroy Brackey, Lake Mills; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Selmer and Nettie Thorson; a sister, Sharon Brackey; and a niece. Sarah Brackey.
