Robert “Dusty” Dewain Thompson
Robert “Dusty” Thompson, 71, passed away Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020, at Our House Hospice Home, Slayton, Minn. Robert Thompson was born on February 2, 1949 in Forest City, Iowa to Dorn and Jeanette Johnson Thompson. A private funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 23, at Lakeside Baptist Church, Worthington, Minn., with Rev. Wesley Kouba officiating. The pallbearers will be Jeff Loeschen, David Loeschen, Don Hansen, Doug Hansen, Chris Hansen and Peter Jacobsen. Interment will be at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, Minn. Per executive order, masks will be required and social distancing and occupancy limits are to be followed. Totzke Funeral Home, Slayton, Minn. is entrusted with arrangements.
Robert grew up in Forest City and graduated from Forest City High School in 1967. He then attended Mankato State College graduating in 1972.
On June 21, 1975, he and Cheryl Hansen were married at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Currie, Minn. Following their marriage they made their home in Lake Mills, where they owned and operated several area restaurants.
In 2010, they moved to Currie, Minn., and operated The Log Cabin in Dovray, Minn. In 2017, they owned and operated the Country Host, Slayton, Minn. They retired in 2018.
Due to failing health Dusty moved to Our House Hospice Home, Nov. 2, 2020. He attended Lakeside Baptist Church, Worthington, Minn. Dusty enjoyed golfing and taking family vacations.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Thompson, Slayton, Minn.; three children: Mitchell Thompson and Jolene, Delray Beach, Fla.; Jay Thompson and Michelle Evjen, Currie, Minn.; and Nicole Thompson, Slayton, Minn.; three grandsons: Gunner Thompson, and Wyatt and Tristan Thompson: four siblings: Violet Loeschen and her husband, Lawrence, Titonka,; Dennis Thompson, Thompson; Doris Hatland, Lake Mills; and DeEtta Buns and her husband, Tim,Wilmington, N.C.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings: Ruth Dunn, Keith Thompson, Betty Thompson, and Debra Kvammen.
