Reuben C. Hinderaker

Reuben C. Hinderaker, 87, Lake Mills, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. A funeral service was held Saturday, Sept. 17, at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Joice, with Rev. Brent Walker officiating.  Burial was held in the Synod Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Lake Mills. Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, was in charge of arrangements.
Reuben Carroll Hinderaker was born May 18, 1929 at Radcliffe, to Clarence and Ruth (Larson) Hinderaker.  When he was a young child he moved with his parents to Sargeant, Minn., where he attended country school.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  
On Nov. 7, 1987 he was united in marriage with Rose (Hansen) Braadland at Thompson.
Reuben farmed and worked at various factory jobs, before retiring in 1994.  He loved going to county fairs, parades, and various threshing events in the area, as well as attending old car and tractor shows.  Reuben also enjoyed fishing.  One of his favorite things to do was going to The Grand Café and Don’s Motor Mart, Lake Mills, to have coffee and visit.
He was a very kind and considerate person, who liked the simple things in life.  Reuben was a member of Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Joice, and his faith was always very important to him.
He is survived by a sister, Audrey Halsey, Austin, Minn.; four brothers: Gaylord (Sharlene) Hinderaker, Waverly; Roger (Nancy) Hinderaker, Shell Rock; Harold Hinderaker, Forest City; and Charles (Shirley), Austin, Minn.; four stepdaughters: Marilyn (Bert) Songstad, Phoenix, Ariz.; Susan (Darris) Peterson, Scarville; Julie (Rick) Aragon, Arvada, Colo.; and Lori (Mike) Bethel, Big Lake, Minn.; stepson, Lon Sundsvold and Meri Lee Cowling, Hibbing, Minn.; a stepdaughter-in-law, Karen Sundsvold, Grand Rapids, Minn.; 18 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Joyce Anderson, Clarion; Howard (Dottie) Hansen, Spring Hill, Fla.; Harlan (Lola) Hansen, Glendale, Ariz.; Merv (Klaudene) Hansen, Sun Prairie, Wis.; Frank (Jan) Hansen, Iola, Wis.; and Jerry Hansen, Waupaca, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Reuben was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose; a sister, Phyllis Hinderaker; two brothers-in-law: Sy Halsey and Howard Anderson; sister-in-law, Bobbie Hansen; and a stepson, Larry Sundsvold.
