Phyllis R. Brackey

Phyllis R. Brackey, 81, Lake Mills passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017 at the Lake Mills Care Center. A memorial service will be held today (Wednesday), Oct. 4, at 1:30 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, with Pastor Melinda McCluskey officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Salem Memorial Cemetery, rural Lake Mills. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, is in charge of arrangements.
Phyllis Ruth (Berg) Brackey was born Feb. 4, 1936 in Bristol Township, Worth County, to parents Elmer and Sophie (Hestness) Berg. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church. She attended Lake Mills Community School.
She met her husband, Claire, and they were married Jan. 8, 1954 and had 63 years together. To this union they were blessed with two children: Carole and Mark.
She enjoyed watching game shows, the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings. Every year she planted tomatoes and graciously shared them with family and friends. Fishing was one of her favorite pastimes. She took many trips to Canada with her husband as well as fishing around Lake Mills. She especially liked stealing his pole and catching his fish. Phyllis also graciously shared her catches with family and friends.
Family was important to her. She always felt the need to deliver small care packages and was quick to inform everyone if there was bad weather coming.
She enjoyed watching her granddaughters grow up and play sports. She especially loved softball and was always seated behind the home plate fence cheering them on.
Phyllis worked at Winnebago Industries and retired after 24 years.
She is survived by her husband, Claire; daughter, Carole Summers and Kim Jensen, Joice; son, Mark (Barbara) Brackey, Lake Mills; granddaughters: Stephanie (Jared) Finer, Lake Mills; and Melissa (Seth) Schulz, St. Ansgar; two great-granddaughters: Olivia and Emersyn Schulz; a sister, Janet Klein, Mason City; niece, Nancy (Chuck) Maland, Knoxville, Tenn.; and a great-nephew, J.T. Maland, Knoxville, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Sophie Berg; a brother, Allen Berg; and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Klein.
