Phillip Leon Wogen was born Jan. 21, 1940 in Lake Mills, to parents Raymond and Anna (Talle) Wogen. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, and graduated from Lake Mills High School with the Class of ’58.
On Jan. 13, 1962, Phillip was married to Mary Jo Hengesteg at St. James Catholic Church, Forest City. They made Lake Mills their home until 1970, when they made a move to Wisconsin, while Phil worked for Larson Manufacturing. The Wogen’s remained in Wisconsin until the late 1970s. After moving back to Lake Mills, Phil was employed by Winnebago Industries, retiring in 1996.
Phil was a devoted husband, loving father and a wonderful grandpa. He was also a talker. He loved telling stories and reminiscing about the “good old days.” After his retirement, he worked part-time at Singelstad Hardware, and customers could always count on Phillip for a conversation, especially if it involved gardening, politics, or his 98 percent Norwegian heritage.
Through the years, much of Phillip’s free time was spent at grandkids’ countless games, meets, fairs and parties. He also enjoyed gardening, reading, and simply enjoying the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Wogen, Lake Mills; four children and 10 grandchildren: a son, Allan (Rhonda) Wogen, Lake Mills, and their sons, Scott Wogen and Shane Wogen; daughter, Teresa (Tim) Midlang, Lake Mills, and their children, Alicia Midlang, Bradley Midlang and Christina Midlang; son, Brian (Jeanne) Wogen, Sheffield, and their children, Markus (wife Kat) Wogen, Erika Wogen and Lukas Wogen; and daughter, Joni (Kurt Winter) Wogen, Mason City, and their children, Joe Winter and Anna Wogen; one great-grandchild, Mateo Wogen; and a sister-in-law, Jan Wogen, Olivia, Minn. He was blessed with a large extended family when he married Mary Jo. Countless sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews have always been considered family to Phil.
Those who have preceded him in death were his parents; grandson, Scott Anthony Midlang; and a brother, Jon Wogen.
