Paul Ingvald Grimsbo was born Dec. 9, 1927 to Ingvald and Christie (Degnepold) Grimsbo in his Degnepold grandparents’ home in rural Scarville. He was baptized Jan. 8, 1928 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Vinje, and confirmed May 10, 1942 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Scarville, by Rev. S.J. Fretheim. The family lived near Palisade, Minn., until Paul was four years old. They then moved to their farm in Norway Township, rural Lake Mills.
Paul began his education in the Anderson School in Norway Township, continuing in the Emmons Public School, Emmons, Minn.
Paul enlisted in the United States Army at Fort Snelling, St Paul, Minn., Sept. 23, 1946. After basic training, he left for Japan, arriving in Yokohama, Japan, Jan. 8, 1947. His honorable discharge was Jan. 8, 1948. Paul then returned home to farm with his father until they both retired.
On June 20, 1952 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Stalheim Twin Lakes, Minn., at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, Minn. The couple moved to a farm near Scarville, where they continued to live for 67 years. They were blessed with two children: Pamela and Channing.
Paul was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church throughout his life, serving on the church council and other committees. Paul liked music and taught himself to play the piano and organ. He was a car and truck enthusiast. With a big yard, he spent many hours on the lawn mower and in the machine shop repairing and doing woodwork.
Paul was a member of the Sons of Norway Lodge and Sunnfjord Organization in America. His Norwegian heritage was important to him. Knowing he had many relatives in Norway, he and Lorraine and family made a visit there in 1974. That was the beginning of many visits to Norway and return visits from relatives.
Paul was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
