Maynis Aamodt, 93, Lake Mills (formerly of Northwood), passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at the Lake Mills Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, at First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with Pastor Judy Converse officiating. Maynis’s family will greet friends at the church at 12:30 p.m.
Maynis was born March 28, 1925 in rural Joice, to Lauritz and Anna Larson on the family farm. She was baptized and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church, rural Joice. After graduation from Joice High School, she attended college at Waldorf, Foreset City.
Maynis and Carroll Aamodt were married at Concordia Church, Oct. 10, 1947. In 1950, Maynis and Carroll moved to a farm west of Northwood and lived there until moving to town after retiring from farming.
In addition to being a farm wife and devoted mother, she ran the lunch counter for the Northwood Sale Barn, worked at Harv and Dick’s Grocery Store, and at the Worth County treasurer’s office for over 20 years.
Maynie loved people and was very active in volunteer roles, including the First Lutheran Church, where she shared her Christian faith in her ladies circle group for over 60 years. Maynie also served on the board of the Worth County ARC. She served on the Lutheran Retirement Home Auxiliary Board, and with the VFW Post 6779 Ladies Auxiliary for over 50 years.
She is surived by three children: Craig (Mary) Aamodt, Steward, Ill.; Lori Aamodt, Austin Minn.; and Robert (Julie) Aamodt, Lake Mills; daughter-in-law, Peggy (Dick) Hassett, Mediapolis; grandchildren: Carl (Jasmen) Aamodt, Larissa Aamodt, Ryan Aamodt, Nathan Aamodt, Tyler Aamodt, Aaron (Becky) Aamodt, Cory (Renee) Aamodt, and Scott Aamodt; great-grandchildren: Hannah and Abigail Aamodt; along with many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll, who passed away June 4, 2009; infant daughter, Ann Marie; son, David; daughter-in-law, Linda; her parents; brothers: Leroy (Mary Lou) Larson; Norman (Marilyn) Larson; Royden (Dorothy) Larson; and Wallace (Beverly) Larson; her sister, Ivanelle (Joe) McKissick; great-grandchild, Alana Lyn Waver; brothers and sisters-in-law: DeVere Steffensen; Orian and Elaine Aamodt; and Virgean and Donald Hogan.
