Maynard Allen Peterson was born Dec. 8, 1943 in Heartland Township, rural Northwood, to parents A. Milton and Inborg (Stromley) Peterson. Maynard attended country school near Joice and then by Lake Mills.
On June 27, 1970 he was married to Barbara Brevig at Bethany Lutheran Church, Kensett. They were blessed with three daughters: Kimberly, Melissa and Carrie.
Through the years, Maynard worked for Springer’s Appliance, Farmstead/Wilson, and Winnebago Industries as well as local farmers. Maynard loved helping on the farm in rural Joice, caring for the animals-especially the donkeys, doing repair work, and spending time outdoors. Everything on the farm was done Maynard’s way.
As a jack of all trades, Maynard could do plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry. Once again, done Maynard’s way. He liked fishing, camping, four-wheeling, boating, water skiing and kite flying. Family and friends will remember him as a jokester, using fire crackers or train horns to scare people, resulting in laughter so fierce it brought tears to his eyes. He had two old Cadillac’s, affectionately referred to as the Yellow Banana and the Black Mafia cars, and he frequently attended cars shows to admire others classic rides.
Maynard and Barb were able to enjoy a short retirement in Mission, Texas, but soon found out they missed their grandchildren too much to leave the Midwest.
Maynard will be missed by his wife, Barbara, rural Joice; three daughters: Kimberly Olson, Joice; Melissa (Mark) Odom, Garner; and Carrie (Travis Thorson) Ross, Lake Mills; grandchildren: Kelsi Odom, Bridget Odom, Dakota (Derik) Monson, Anthony Acheson, Cassey Ross, and Melanie (Mellisa) Zabel; and great-grandchildren Cayden Zabel and Baby G Monson who will make an appearance very soon; three sisters: Judy Hermanson, Lake Mills; Karen Moe, Osage; and Ila Peterson, Lake Mills; and many extended relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A. Milton and Inborg Peterson; as well as two brothers-in-law: Jerome Hermanson and Duane Moe.
