Mavis Lorraine Bolstad
Mavis Lorraine Bolstad, 82, Lake Mills, formerly of Fairbanks, Alaska, passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood. Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 2, at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, with Pastor Joel L. Guttormson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial was held at Salem Memorial Cemetery, rural Lake Mills.
Mavis Lorraine Bolstad was born June 30, 1936 in Vinje, the daughter of Arthur E. and Rosecelia J. (Branstad) Knudtson. She was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church attended Scarville schools, graduating in 1954.
She married Roger Bolstad on Sept. 21, 1957 in Scarville. The couple made their home at Rice Lake for a number of years, and then made their home in Fairbanks, Alaska for 27 prior to returning to North Iowa. They have made Lake Mills their home since 1996.
Mavis worked as a salesperson for Sears for 19 years; she was a member of the Christian Women’s Club, Forest City; belonged to Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills; was a wonderful cook; and will be remembered for her kindness to everyone she encountered.
Survivors include her husband, Roger, Lake Mills; two children: Kathy Lou (Herbert) Sherman, Prescott, Ariz.; and Randy (Patricia) Bolstad, Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren: Kara Kent, Ryan Kent, Joshua Bolstad, and Tabitha Bolstad; sister, Jean (Gordon) Hagen, Lake Mills; brother-in-law, Mike Hill, St. Paul, Minn.; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Truman Knudtson; two sisters: Arlene Hill and Dorothy Christianson; and two nephews: Steven Hagen and Thomas Christianson.
