Marlis LaBonnie Thoen

June 18, 1937 – October 2018

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our beloved Marlis LaBonnie Thoen, but we rejoice that she is at peace and with the Lord. We will carry her kind and gentle nature in our hearts and treasure her memory forever. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Associates’ Christmas Fund of Silverado Aspen Park Memory Care, or the Dementia Society of America. There will be a visitation Saturday evening, Nov. 10, from 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, Salt Lake City, Utah. Funeral services will be held in the same location, Sunday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m., with a light lunch to follow.
Born June 18, 1937 in Lake Mills, to George J. and Mabel Irene Johnson (Gilbertson), she graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1955. She married Dr. Dennis D. Thoen of Kensett, Aug. 29, 1959. She lived her entire married life in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Bonnie devoted her life to raising her four children, promoting Redeemer Lutheran School and Salt Lake Lutheran High School, and caring for the homeless and elderly. She had a strong connection to nature, loved her dogs, antiquing, woodworking, crochet, and traveling with her family in the RV.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Dennis D. Thoen, Salt Lake City, Utah; children: LaRynda (Neil Salyapongse), Madison, Wis.; Tory (LeAnn), Salt Lake City, Utah; Erica (Georgette Leventis), Salt Lake City, Utah; and Kirsten Thoen, New York City, N.Y.; sister-in-law Lois Johnson, Lake Mills; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Mylan and Lowell Johnson.
