Marlene Marie Thompson

Marlene M. Thompson, 62, Lake Mills, passed away unexpectedly at her mother’s home in Emmons, Minn., Tuesday, May 11, 2021. Plans for a memorial service and inurnment are pending with Schott Funeral Homes-Mittelstadt Chapel, Lake Mills.
Marlene Marie Thompson was born Nov. 24, 1958 in Albert Lea, Minn., to parents Duane and Edythe (Hacker) Thompson.  She attended and graduated from Emmons High School, Emmons, Minn.
Following her graduation, Marlene was married to Kevin Benesch at United Methodist Church, Albert Lea, Minn.  They made their home in Twin Lakes, Minn., and had a son, Jeffrey.
After their divorce, Marlene moved to Tennessee for a short period of time, but ultimately ended up moving back to north Iowa. Marlene then married Larry Sunde, and they made their home in Lake Mills for many years.
After their divorce, Marlene moved into her apartment where she spent much of her time. She enjoyed collecting knick-knacks and figurines. She loved birds and flowers. Her hobbies included watching movies, reading books, crafting and sewing. She was blessed with two granddaughters, of whom she loved to spend time with and was very proud.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Rachel Nelson) Benesch, Joice; her mother, Edythe Thompson, Emmons, Minn.; special friend, Dale Mehus, Lake Mills; two granddaughters: Madison and Ava Benesch; three brothers: Lee (Mary) Thompson, Welcome, Minn.; Jack Thompson, Carroll; and Ronnie (Marlys) Thompson, Emmons, Minn.; as well as several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Marlene was preceded in death by her father, Duane Thompson; a brother, Neil Thompson; and her grandparents.
