Marie Gunderson Petersburg

Marie (Gunderson) Petersburg passed away Friday, Nov. 18, 2016 at the age of 79. In keeping with her wishes, a small family gathering will be held and she will rest with her husband at the Houston National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, Marie requested that donations be made in her name to the Houston Food Bank, Houston, Texas.
Marie was the adopted daughter of Ole and Valborg Gunderson, Lake Mills. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills. She attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, and then taught second grade in nearby Humboldt County.
She married Ronald Petersburg in 1958, moved to California, and became a mother to one son, Kevin. Her family then moved to Dickinson, Texas, and later, resided in the Clear Lake City area.
Marie loved art, painting and writing short stories and poetry. She was a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and the Bay Area Writer’s League, Houston, Texas.
She is survived by her son, Kevin Petersburg, and his wife, Karen; two grandchildren: Katelyn and Ryan; two step-grandchildren: Leah and Jeffrey; siblings: Betty, Fred, Bob, and David. Marie also leaves behind many family and friends that will treasure her memory.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Valborg Gunderson; and recently, her husband, Ronald Petersburg.
