Larry Dean Flo

August 28, 1939 – March 30, 2020

Larry Dean Flo reunited with his parents Monday, March 30, 2020, and is proudly looking down on us from heaven, while he and his brothers, Mike, Rick, and son-in-law, Robert Hopkins, conjure up some way to mess with those closest to them. If you would like to honor Larry’s memory, take a close friend or relative out for coffee with cream and donuts. Smile, he will be there. Cremation will take place at the family’s convenience and his ashes will be kept in an urn until they get tired of having it around.
Larry was born Aug. 28, 1939 to Lester and Anna Flo in a “field in Iowa”according to him. He attended school in Lake Mills, where he was also baptized and confirmed.
He was the second oldest of six children. Larry’s two beautiful and much wiser sisters are Betty (Jim) Groe and Sharon (Lenny) Schiller and his brothers, who are almost as handsome and tough as he was, are Jerry, Mike and Rick.
His biggest accomplishments in life were marrying a woman that he would cherish for a lifetime, Karen Miller of Albert Lea, Minn. They were married Oct. 14, 1961 in Albert Lea, Minn., creating two wonderful children, Kenneth (Kenny) and Carolyn (Tula), and putting God number one in his life. Larry and Karen were involved in many church projects. Larry loved working with his hands, and made many beautiful doll houses, plaques, and many other wood-working items.
Larry served in the Army, stationed in Germany and was a jack of all trades through life. He worked at Streeters in Albert Lea, and he also farmed at his home in Emmons, Minn., before moving to Texas.
Twenty four years ago, Larry took a bad fall that resulted in a brain tumor. In recent months, he developed cancer. He still had his sense of humor, and continued onward with Karen by his side.
Larry was a master at being a grandpa. He was blessed with three grandchildren: Ryan, Rebecca and Eillen. He was excited to be a great-grandpa to Ryan and Paige’s children, Tatum, Truett, and Lincoln, and to Eillen’s son, Genken.
Larry loved spending time with his family, telling stories, pulling pranks, letting his daughter-in-law, Joyce, and soon to be son-in-law, Chris, win at card games and being the last couple to dance at Rebecca and Andrew’s wedding.
