Judy Lorraine (Helland) Gambell was born Nov. 17, 1946 to Lester B. and Maxine (Hacker) Helland in Albert Lea, Minn. Judy spent her early years the family farm close to Emmons, Minn., until the family moved into a house in town built by her father.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Emmons Lutheran Church, where she was active in the church choir, Luther league and the senior bible class. She also attended school in Emmons, graduating in 1964, where she participated in the girl’s glee club and served on the annual staff. ‘Do unto others as you would have others do unto you’ was her philosophy, and she truly lived by that golden rule.
She married James Lund, Nov 7, 1965. This union blessed her with her first three children: Michael, Jeffrey and Gary. After living in Lake Mills for a short time, they moved to Forest City, where they joined Immanuel Lutheran Church. She worked at the ‘House of Sweets’, Forest City early in their marriage. She began her almost 40-year career at Winnebago Industries shortly after her son, Jeffrey, became one of the first clients at North Central Human Services (now known as Mosaic).
Crocheting and sewing were always a passion of hers, making quilts and other now cherished items for her family, so her job sewing cushions, pillows and other items for the motorhomes was a good fit.
Her second marriage to Arthur Gambell gave her another son, Nathan, and two stepchildren, Jessica and Michael, whom she always loved as her own. She was an avid lifelong Minnesota Twins fan, a gift inherited by her and her sisters from their father. She was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially during the holidays when she would decorate her house beautifully to celebrate.
Left to cherish her memory are her sisters: Sally (Gary) Bohm, Waseca, Minn.; Cathy (John) Nelson, Emmons, Minn.; and Peggy (Lynn) Honsey, Winona, Minn.; sons: Michael (Diane) Lund, Pleasant Hill; Gary Lund and Nathan Gambell, both of Forest City; stepchildren: Jessica (Jon) Cahoon and Michael (April) Gambell, also of Forest City; seven grandchildren: Jayden Springer, Faith and Hunter Gambell, Nicholas, Chase, Jacob and Matthew Gambell, all of Forest City; and many nieces and nephews.
Judy is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Gambell; her parents; son, Jeffrey; and brother-in-law, David Gambell.
