Jerry Alan Arnevik

August 9, 1938 – March 19, 2019

Jerry Arnevik, formerly of Thompson, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019.
Jerry was born to Selmer and Myrtle (Hamsund) Arnevik at the Irish Hospital, Forest City, Aug. 9, 1938. Jerry was a graduate of Lake Mills High School. He was married to Muriel Quisling in July of 1956, a marriage that blessed his life with three sons: Dan, Scott and Brad; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Jerry also had special father-like bonds with Randy Goetz, Buffalo Center, and Torstein Schee of Oslo, Norway.
Jerry lived in the Lake Mills and Thompson areas for most of his life. He was known wherever he went for his outgoing personality, an ability to start conversations with complete strangers, an infectious smile you never forgot, and his generosity to those less fortunate. He loved fishing, cowboy boots that fit like a glove, great coffee and fine scotch whiskey.
Jerry held numerous jobs over the years in manufacturing, sales and banking. In fact, he used to joke that he never could hold a steady job. However, his passion and love was agriculture and he farmed in the Thompson area for many years, retiring in 2001.
Jerry married his current wife, Cindy, Dec. 29, 1989. They relocated to the Troy, Mo. area in 1999.
After retiring to Missouri, he still came back each spring and fall to help with planting and harvest telling his friends at the local coffee shop he was going up north to supervise. He also became an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Cindy, Troy, Mo.; sons: Dan (Lonnie) and Brad (Holly), both of Thompson; daughter-in-law, Mary Beth McEuen, Chesterfield, Mo.; two sisters: Sylvia (Mark) Gulick, Johnson City, Tenn.; and Sara Stensrud (Maynard), Waseca, Minn.; a brother Marlin (Mary), Melbourne, Fla.; six grandchildren: Tena Arnevik Frank (Matt), St. Louis, Mo.; Ryan (Melissa) Arnevik, Centerville; Missy (Andy) Wohldmann, O’Fallon, Mo.; Kayla (Cole) Fister, Bondurant; Maddie Arnevik, Mason City; and Lexie Arnevik, Thompson; great-grandchildren: Tyler Arnevik, Jacob Frank, Hannah Frank, and Luke Frank, St. Louis, Mo.; Alaina Arnevik, Averie Arnevik and Ayden Arnevik, Centerville; Alix Wohldmann, Morgan Wohldmann and Brady Wohldmann, O’Fallon, Mo.; and Jones Fister and Ari Fister, Bondurant; and one great-great-granddaughter, Abrielle Arnevik, St. Louis, Mo.; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
His parents; a son, Scott; and a sister, Sandra Arnevik, preceded Jerry in death.
