Jeannette Bendickson-Harmon
Jeannette Bendickson-Harmon passed away at the age of 87 at the Manly Specialty Care, Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 6:30 pm. A funeral service was held Monday, June 13, at First Shell Rock Lutheran Church, Northwood, with Rev. David Emmons officiating. Burial was held in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to First Shellrock Lutheran Church and Manly Specialty Care. Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, Northwood, was in charge of arrangements.
Jeannette was born June 4, 1929, to Lawrence and Millie Halvorson. Jeannette grew up on the family farm near Silver Lake. She was the oldest of three children.
Jeannette married Harlan Bendickson, Oct. 19, 1946 at Somber Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills. She was mother to five children who will miss her terribly: Drew, Terry, Wade, Lee, and Dedra. J
eannette was a busy homemaker and active in First Shellrock Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, singing in the choir, and other church activities.
In 1978, Harlan passed. Jeannette married Obert Harmon in Waterloo, March 8, 1987. Obert passed in 1990.
She was a quiet retrospective person with a ready smile and patience that lasted forever, well almost. She had large gardens and baked many of loaves of bread to help feed her growing boys and try to keep those hollow legs filled up.
She would always be ready to help if needed, and would quietly go about her chores. While she was working, you could often times hear her whistling bird songs, which she taught herself how to do when she was walking back and forth to the country school.
Jeannette is survived by her five children: Drew, Terry (Joan), Wade (Bobbi), Lee (Linda) Bendickson, and Dedra (Tony) Harris; eight grandchildren: Jennifer (Paul) Vaughn, Evan Bendickson, Brian (Alyssa) Bendickson, Shelby (Dustin) Talman, Tori (Jacob) Loken, Aaron Bendickson, Lindy Harris, Rebecca Bendickson; five great-grandchildren: Nolan and Carter Vaughn, Alexandra, Corrinne, and Natalie Tallman; brothers: Harold (Mavis) Halvorson, and Rev. Wayne Halvorson; and many nieces and nephews.
