Irene E. Fahje
Irene E. Fahje, 98, Lyle, Minn., passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the Lake Mills Care Center, Lake Mills. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 21, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Lyle, Minn., with Pastor Joel Guttormson and Pastor Steve Woyen officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, April 20, at Worlein Funeral Home, Austin, Minn., and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Woodbury Cemetery, rural Lyle. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home, Austin, Minn.
Irene Evelyn Nelson was born Dec. 14, 1918 in Haynes, N.D., to Hans W. and Agnes (Peterson) Nelson. She attended school in North Dakota and moved to Minnesota in 1940.
On Dec. 9, 1945, Irene was united in marriage to Bernhard Fahje in Lyle, Minn., where Irene worked at the bank. A member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle, the couple had four children. Their son, Dennis, died in infancy.
Irene was famous for her delicious homemade dill pickles, and she loved her role as homemaker, wife, mother, and was lovingly referred to as “clean Irene” by her family. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, embroidery, and playing cards. Irene treasured the many trips she was able to enjoy with her daughters. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the love of her life.
Irene is survived by her daughters: Sandra Anderson, Rochester, Minn.; Dianne (Charles) Gardner, Lake Mills; and Cindy (Frank) Postic,Chanhassen, Minn.; 11 grandchildren: Melanie (Doug) Bulthuis, Chad (Jodi) Anderson, Kari (David) Elias, Dustin (Kari) Anderson, Brady (Mali) Anderson, Michael Gardner, Laura Gardner, Brett (Rachel) Gardner, Becky Postic (Dave Groth), Tracy Postic, DeAnna (Nathan) Onken; 10 great-grandchildren: Cecilia, Eliana, Max, Ava, Chase, and Ian Anderson, Alex and Ryan Elias, Tegan Onken, and Phynley Gardner; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernhard; her infant son, Dennis; her sister, Shirley (Roger) Bengtson; her brother, Francis (Esther) Nelson; and one great-grandson, Brandon.
