Harold LeRoy Knutson

May 31, 1942 – April 10, 2022

Harold Knutson, 79, Lake Mills, passed away at his home Sunday, April 10, 2022, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Emmons Lutheran Church, Emmons, Minn., with Pastor Ryan Henkel officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Schott Funeral Homes–Mittelstadt Chapel, Lake Mills, and again on hour prior to the service at the church.
Harold LeRoy Knutson was born May 31, 1942 to Raymond and Edith (Knudtson) Knutson in Forest City. He graduated from Hanlontown High School, Hanlontown, in 1959.
Harold joined the 34th Infantry Division of the Iowa Army National Guard in 1964 where he served for six years.
He was united in marriage to Lucy Klosterman on Dec. 29, 1967. Two children were born to this union.
Harold was active in farming until he retired in 2004. He also sold crop insurance and helped two local farmers with spring’s work and harvest.
Harold enjoyed both summer fishing and ice fishing with family and friends at Lake of the Woods, Minnesota. One of his fondest memories was catching the ‘big one’ and taking their grandchildren fishing at Lake of the Woods. He and Lucy enjoyed traveling and he especially enjoyed being at their home in Walker, Minn., whenever possible.
He was a member of Emmons Lutheran Church, the Spencer Ross American Legion Post, Walker, Minn., and most recently the Emmons American Legion Post.
The two most important things in Harold’s life were his faith in God and his family. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart.
Survivors include his wife, Lucy; son, Scott Knutson and his wife, Kelly, Mason City; daughter, Stacy Tritch and her husband, Jay, Joice; grandchildren: Mariah Knutson (Austin Moore), Coralville; Kayden Knutson (Liz Guarello),  Colorado Springs, Colo.; Alex Hopkins (Kathryn Groom), Plymouth, Minn.; and Hunter Tritch (Taylor Pruisman), Cedar Falls; step-grandson, Jason Tritch and his wife, Layna, rural Northwood, and their children, Carter and Bexley; and sister-in-law, Anthea Aitken, Corpus Christi, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Kirchoff; and two brothers-in-law, William and James Klosterman.
