Harold L. Groe

Harold L. “Harry” Groe, 63, Peoria Heights, Ill.,, formerly of Lake Mills, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 31, 2016, at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn. Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 6, at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills with Pastor Joel L. Guttormson officiating.Following the funeral, cremation was held, with inurnment at Salem Memorial Cemetery, rural Lake Mills.
Harold Lester Groe was born Nov. 8, 1952, in Albert Lea, Minn., the son of Lester Jerome and Lovenea Sylvia (Lien) Groe. He attended and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1971 and went on to attend Iowa State University, Ames, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Administration.
Harry spent most of his life in the business/finance field. He had very recently retired from Citizens Equity First Credit Union (CEFCU) where he had been employed for over 20 years.
Free time would find Harry enjoying a ballgame on TV—the NY Yankees and NY Giants were two favorites—in addition to ISU college football. With his sons, Harry liked to take vacations to explore caves, seek thrill rides at amusement parks, and sight-see at zoos whenever they could.
Survivors include his two sons: Michael L. Groe and Joseph M. Groe, both of Peoria Heights, Ill.; mother, Lovenea Groe, Lake Mills; a brother, Loren (Tania) Groe, Lake Mills; two nieces: Alessandra and Rachel; one nephew, Anthony; and many extended relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lester J. Groe in 2002.
