Harold Dean Reindal

Harold Dean Reindal, 92, San Clemente, Calif., passed away peacefully Saturday, May 21, 2016, at San Clemente Villas by the Sea.  Memorial services are pending this summer in San Clemente, Calif.,  and Minnesota.
Harold was the oldest son of Oscar B. and Lilah Hanson Reindal, born in Mankato, Minn., July 21, 1923. He was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, Minn., Oct. 7, 1923 and confirmed at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, Minn., May 15, 1938.
The family moved from Conger, Minn., to a farm near Alden in 1927. Harold attended 12 years at the Alden School with graduation from Alden High School in 1941.
Shortly after high school, Harold had lung surgery at the Mayo Clinic, where the lower two lobes on his right lung were removed— very experimental surgery at that time. Recovering from surgery, he was employed by the Mayo Clinic for several months before returning to the farm. For health reasons, for several years during his 20s, he spent the winters in Texas and Arizona, returning summers to help with the farm.
On Nov. 23, 1952, Harold was united in marriage to Shirley Yocom at Emmons Lutheran Church. Living in Alden, Minn., Harold belonged to the Danish Church when it merged with Redeemer Lutheran and served on the church council. Harold farmed with brother, Roger, and father, Oscar, with dairy herd and hogs, and especially active with the dairy part of the operation serving on the Alden Creamery Board. While Roger handled most of the farm work and chores, Harold managed the Reindal Farm Services selling fertilizer, lime and seed.
Harold and Shirley moved to California in 1974, with the climate near the ocean better for Harold’s health. His hobbies included woodworking including making cabinets for family. He enjoyed traveling with Shirley to Alaska, Europe and Australia. In recent years, they belonged to the Sons of Norway in San Clemente, Calif., and the San Clemente Presbyterian Church singing in the choir for several years.
Survivors include wife, Shirley; brother, Roger Reindal; nephews and nieces: Bruce Reindal, Joyce (Bruce) Quade, Steve Sprenger, Patricia Yocom, John (Paula) Yocom, Kriste (Gary) Saffert, and Laurie (Jerome) Wille; along with grandnephews and grandnieces: Eric (Amarette) Quade, Kirsten (Tim) Hollis, Douglas Reindal, Jay Sprenger, and Stephanie Sprenger.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marjorie Sprenger; nephew, Timothy Sprenger; parents-in-law, Steve and Hattie Yocom; brothers-in-law, Donald Sprenger and Steven F. Yocom; and sisters-in-law, Kerjil Yocom and Ivo Reindal.
