Harold Dean Hinderaker
Harold Dean Hinderaker, 80, passed away at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Forest City Iowa, on Aug. 30, 2020 due to COVID-19. A small funeral service for Harold will be held outdoors in the Salem Memorial Cemetery, rural Lake Mills, Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour before. Pastor Douglas Farrell will officiate. Attendees are encouraged to social distance, wear masks, and bring their own lawn chairs.
Harold was born to Clarence and Ruth Larson Hinderaker, Sept. 3, 1939 and was raised in Sargeant Minn. Harold was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He attended Country School #114 through eighth grade, then worked on a family farm.
Harold married Rose Myers in June 1965 and they were blessed with four sons; Daniel, Darrell, Duane and Delbert. Early on, Harold was a farmer, then worked in various manufacturing factories and lived in multiple towns in northern Iowa. While Harold and Rose later divorced, Harold remained close with his sons. It was wellknown that one of Harold’s proudest moments was when he became a father. Harold’s heart was broken when his son, Darrell, passed away Aug. 27, 2018.
In his 40’s Harold experienced life changing events. Harold was ambitious enough to pursue his education and earned his GED. But Harold’s most memorable event was when he became a born-again Christian; accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. Harold was not shy about his thoughts on religion and enjoyed engaging in conversations with others about the Bible.
Harold enjoyed working on lawnmowers, tractors, cars, reading, and attending threshing events with his brothers. A hobby that Harold kept from many people was that he had an amazing ability to write heart felt poems and at one point considered working for Hallmark. Harold will always be remembered by his sweet smile and loud laugh.
Over the last few years, Harold struggled with symptoms of dementia. He lived with his son, Dan (and Charleen), prior to moving into the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Forest City, February 2020. While we rejoice knowing Harold is made whole again and in the everlasting arms of the Lord, we deeply morn his loss.
Harold is survived by his beloved sons: Dan (Charleen) Hinderaker, Forest City; Duane (Deb) Hinderaker, New Richland, Minn.; and Delbert (and fiance Ann) Hinderaker, Forest City; daughter-in-law, Mary Hinderaker, Scarville; grandchildren: Tiffany (Cody) Hagar, Fort Dodge; and Avery (Halle) Hinderaker, Lake Mills; great-grandchildren: Carsen Hagar, Sawyer Hagar, Ryland Hagar, all of Fort-Dodge; and Rhaylee Hinderaker and Ripley Hinderaker, both of Lake Mills; sister, Audrey Halsey, Austin, Minn.; three brothers: Gaylord (Sharlene) Hinderaker, Waverly; Charles (Shirley), Dexter, Minn.; and Roger (Nancy) Hinderaker, Shell Rock; and many nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; son, Darrell Hinderaker; sister, Phyllis Hinderaker; brother, Rueben Hinderaker; and nephews: Mark Hinderaker and John Hinderaker.
