Gunhild Edith “Edy” Stensrud

Gunhild Edith “Edy” Stensrud, formerly of Lake Mills, passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017 at her home in Somers, N.Y. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 18, at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Joice. Interment will be in the Beaver Creek Cemetery. Following the interment, a gathering and luncheon will be held at the church.
Edy was born in 1940 in Bronxville, N.Y., to Tom and Judith Sandness. Edy attended and graduated from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, Fergus Falls, Minn. It was here she met Jim Stensrud, Joice. They were married in 1959 in Bergenfield Lutheran Brethren Church, New Jersey.
After their marriage, they came back to the Midwest and lived in the Joice and Lake Mills area for several years. They went back to New York for a visit and never left; 55 years later they were still in New York
Together they helped start Faith Lutheran Brethren Church, Briarcliff, N.Y.; their home church for 55 years.
Edy also attended Kings College, Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.
Edy loved Jesus and He was first in her life. She was a mentor to many. The best listener and she truly invested in people and their lives. She loved to share the gospel and the love of Jesus to all.
 She loved her husband, Jim, and her family, whom she leaves behind–sons: John and his wife, Debra, and their children, Audrey, Sam and Jack; Tippy and his wife, Shelley, and their boys. Scott and Bryan, all of New York. She also leaves behind her sister, Gladys Handeland, Norway; brother, Ed Sandness, Florida, sisters-in-law: Florene Seihlman, Forest City; and Arlene Stensrud, Cambridge, Minn.; many nieces, nephews and close family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Judith Sandness; her parents-in-law, Iver and Trena Stensrud; sisters-in-law, Iva Rinden, and Maxine Tungseth; brothers-in-law, Howard Stensrud, Rick Stensrud, and Bob Stensrud.
