Gerald “Jerry” Wayne Higbee
Gerald “Jerry” Wayne Higbee, 88, Lake Mills, passed away Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018 at Muse Norris Hospice Unit, Mason City.A memorial service was held at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Sudnay, Oct. 21, with Pastor Rob Lanphere officiating. Private family inurnment was held in Graceland Cemetery, Buffalo Center.
Gerald “Jerry” Wayne Higbee was born Sept. 10, 1930 in Brown Valley, Minn., the son of Rowland and Rennie (Frericks) Higbee. Jerry graduated from East High School in Rockford, Ill.
On Aug. 11, 1951, Jerry was united in marriage to Shirley Heitland in the Congregational Church Parsonage, Buffalo Center, by Rev. John Engels.
Jerry was good at everything. He was an avid pool player, bowler, fisherman, and excellent dancer. He loved playing golf; he started caddying at age 12. One of his early jobs was working in a dental lab in Rockford, Ill. For the last 41 years, Jerry worked as a Petro Salesman for Midland Coop, now known as Cenex.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, Lake Mills; daughters: Cheri (Daryl) Groe, Lake Mills; and Tammy (John) Housel, Denton, Texas; sons: Steve Higbee, Albert Lea, Minn.; and Thomas (Jeri) Higbee, Mason City; three grandchildren: Jeff (Kelly) Groe, Jodi (Luke) Ouverson, and Sean Higbee; four great-grandchildren: Evan Ouverson, Sam Ouverson, Ella Ouverson, and Alex Groe; along with many other niece, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jim; and one sister, Lois (Chuck) Runyard.
