Erling O. Brudvig

November 13, 1927 – June 3, 2021

Erling O. Brudvig, 93, rural Lake Mills, passed away Thursday, June 3, 2021 at the Lake Mills Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at Scarville Synod Lutheran Church. Rev. Joshua Skogen will officiate. Burial will follow the service at the church cemetery. Visitation for Erling will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, June 11, at Schott Funeral Home–Mittelstadt Chapel, Lake Mills, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church.
Erling Olaf Brudvig was born Nov. 13, 1927 on the family farm to parents Andrew and Clara (Helle) Brudvig. Erling grew up on the same family farm where he was born, and would live there his entire life.
He was baptized and confirmed at the Scarville Synod Lutheran Church, where he also attended Christian Day School through the eighth grade. Erling graduated from Scarville High School in 1945, and was drafted into the United States Army, where he served his country honorably from 1946-1947.
On June 26, 1953, Erling was united in marriage to Carol (Anderson) at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, Minn. To this union, they were blessed with a daughter, Clarice.
Erling was a devoted member of the Scarville Synod Lutheran Church, serving in many different positions and capacities, while also singing in the church choir.
Erling was a hard worker, caring for the livestock and crops on the same farm that he grew up on. Later in life, Erling and Carol enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Ariz. The couple did this together for nearly 30 years. This is where he was introduced to his hobby of woodworking—something he very much enjoyed.
Those left to carry on his legacy include his daughter, Clarice (Kim) Olson, Woodbury, Minn.; grandchildren: Matthew Olson, Cleveland, Ohio; Tyler Olson, Grand Forks, N.D.; Luke Olson, Woodbury, Minn.; Benjamin Olson, Woodbury, Minn.; and Elza Olson, Woodbury, Minn.; sister, Agnes Andersland, Lake Mills; sister in-law, Nina Anderson, New Richland, Minn.; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Carol in 2019; both parents, Andrew and Clara Brudvig; siblings: Martha (C.M.) Gullerud, Evelyn Brudvig, and Milford (Vivian) Brudvig; and brother-in-law, Selmer Andersland.
