Elna E. Frisbie Hylland
Elna E. (Frisbie) Hylland, 94, Lake Mills, passed away Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her daughters and daughter-in-law. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Center Lutheran Church, Leland, with Pastor Thomas Rank officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday evening, Oct. 27, at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Center Lutheran Cemetery, rural Leland. The family suggests that memorials be directed to Scarville Lutheran School.
Elna Elvira (Frisbie) Hylland was born March 20, 1923, in rural Ringsted, daughter of George and Elsie Frisbie. Elna attended high school in Emmetsburg.
She married Raymond Hylland on July 4, 1939. Ray and Elna farmed by Buffalo Center and Thompson area from 1939 until 1989. They retired to Fairmont, Minn., and lived there until Raymond’s death in 1998. Elna then moved to Lake Mills, where she lived at the present time.
She worked hard on the farm and also worked at Deluxe, Lake Mills. Ray and Elna retired early and enjoyed spending many years wintering in McAllen, Texas. Elna was well known for her many talents. She made beautiful wedding cakes, was an accomplished musician, playing the accordian, organ, mouth organ, and guitar, as well as being an active 4-H Leader for several years. She was a talented painter and sold many of her paintings. She was also an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed for many years going to Branson, Mo., with her family and made many friends including special “grandson” Mike Patrick.
Elna enjoyed animals and was known to be able to tame any animal including squirrels, badgers, geese, chickens, crows, etc. She loved her family and was the cornerstone of the family. She could always find something positive to say about everyone and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Everybody loved her and she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by daughters Rosanne Klemm, Lake Mills; and Marlys (Verlyn) Ubben, Frost, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Nancy Hylland, Stewartville, Minn.; grandchildren: David (Marie) Nielsen, John (Rhonda) Nielsen, Raylene Hylland, Kirk (Susan) Hylland, Rebecca (Darren) Peterson, Daniel (Megan) Hylland, Sarah (Greg) Hofland, Kari (Nathan) Perrine, Tina Ubben (J. R. Grady), Abby (David) Stanfield, Christopher Ubben (Laurie Clair), and Mark Ubben; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister-in-law, Ruth Hylland; and her special dog, Quincy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond A. Hylland; sons: G. Ray (Butch) Hylland and David P Hylland; daughter-in-law, Victoria Hylland Tomkins; son-in-law, Paul Klemm; grandson, George Nielsen; great-grandson, Jeremiah Perrine; great-great-granddaughter, Georgia Taylor; her parents; and siblings.
