Duane Allan Moe

Duane Allan Moe, 79 Forest City, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019 at Faith Lutheran Home, Osage.Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 27, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Forest City, with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Cremation will take place after the service and inurnment will take place at a later date.
Duane Allan Moe was born June 2, 1940 in Albert Lea, Minn., the son of Hamlet Alton and Carma Sylvia (Hovland) Moe. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He attended school and later graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1958.
A well-known fact that Duane was very proud of, was that he was hired at the age of 16 to drive school bus for Lake Mills Community Schools.
On Dec. 14, 1958, he was united in marriage to Karen Peterson at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills. They have two daughters: Debbie Strom and Colette Smith.
Duane worked as drag-line operator with L.J. Voldahl for many years; he also held various sales positions and sold everything from Moorman Feed to cancer insurance. On Feb. 5, 2001, he was hired by Waldorf College, later Waldorf University, as boiler operator. He was extremely proud of this position and was known for his detailed tours of the college.
Duane’s priorities were faith, family and community.
He was passionate about The Gideons International, where he was a member since 1986, serving as treasurer for many of those years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed taking motorcycle rides with his wife, all types of tractors, riding the zero turn lawn mower, taking care of their acreage, spending time at Heritage Park and looking at everything of yesteryear, and something we all knew, he loved visiting with people. Duane enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Duane also continued to share his faith with employees at Faith Lutheran Home even through his health struggles during the last several months.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Karen; daughters: Debbie (Steve) Strom, Garner; and Colette (Tom) Smith, Osage; grandchildren: Travis Strom, Sarah (Jeremy Wilson) Kieschnick, Katie (Bud) Gill, Jamie (fiancé Jaime Judge) Wyatt, Jes Strom, Jeremiah (Fiancé Angie Keeling) Wyatt, Robyn (Cory) Jacobs, Ryan (Katie Herther) Strom, Colby (Marylyn) Smith, and Erik (Courtney Johnson) Wyatt; great-grandchildren: Makayla (Aidan), Drew, Ashton, Cody, Leighton, Nate, Ahna, Cooper G., Ethan, Madden, Carson, Jaxson, Cooper J., Caden, Harrison, Mila, and Kaley; sister, Arlene (Wayne) Sprecher, Lake Mills; brother, Warren (Jean) Moe, Kansas City, Mo.; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Hamlet Moe, Carma and Walter Flugum; and great-granddaughter, Bryanna Wyatt.
