Dorothy Colleen Rogness

October 12, 1930 – April 18, 2020

Dorothy Colleen Rogness, 89, Lake Mills, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020, at the Lake Mills Care Center, Lake Mills. Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time. Private family graveside service will take place at Silver Lake Lutheran Cemetery, rural Northwood, at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 21.  Services will be live streamed on Mittelstadt Funeral Home Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Silver Lake Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.
Dorothy Colleen Rogness was born October 12, 1930 in Sheridan, the daughter of Jacob Ugene and Hazel (Vawter) McCoy.  She attended school and graduated from Hanlontown High School in 1948.  
She was married to Byford Rogness, Nov. 21, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City, by Dr. Alvin Rogness. They were married 65 years and had four sons.
Colleen and Byford enjoyed traveling to Texas for over 20 years. They also made several trips to Florida, Hawaii, New York and Washington, D.C. Colleen enjoyed playing golf, piano, cards, bowling, singing in choirs, and participating in church groups.  She also looked forward to spending time with her family and friends at their lake home on Cedar Lake.
She is survived by her sons: Douglas M. (Kathy) Rogness, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Jeffrey Dean (Lucy) Rogness, Minnetonka, Minn.; and Brian (Jamie) Rogness, Emmons, Minn.; grandchildren: Annie (John Paul) VanArsdale, Scarsdale, N.Y.; Jill (Craig) Smith, Denver, Colo.; Cassie (Mike) Bohmbach, Hopkins, Minn.; and Carter Rogness and Cooper Rogness, both of Emmons, Minn.; great-grandchildren: Stella Rose, Maxwell and Vivienne VanArsdale, Scarsdale, N.Y.; Lehan and Cora Smith, Denver, Colo.; and Stella Grayce and Fischer Bohmbach, Hopkins, Minn.; sisters-in-law: Loretta Rognes, Tampa, Fla.; Junice Bang, Oveida, Fla.; Rosella Purcell, Amhurst, Ohio; and Norma Barville, Batavia, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Byford, in 2014; son, Tom; brothers: Ralph (Harriet) McCoy, Merrill (Cleo) McCoy, John Moore; sisters: Helen (Duey) Connely, Maxine (Paul)Tantow, and Wilma (Chet)Amundson; in-laws: Ozzie and Muriel Rognes, Jerome and Mavis Rognes, Ray Rognes, Don Bang, Dale Purcell, George Barville, and Al Rognes Jr.
