Donna O. Brekken
Donna O. Brekken, 86, Lake Mills, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 2, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Scarville, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at North Prairie Lutheran Cemetery, rural Leland. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Donna Odelle Gunderson Brekken was born near Rake. She was the first child of Maynard and Agnes (Johnson) Gunderson. She was baptized and confirmed at West Prairie Lutheran Church, Leland.
Donna graduated from Thompson High School in 1950. She attended Waldorf College for one year. She also attended Luther College and Mankato State University. Donna loved learning and desired to install that love in every child she taught. She taught over 20 years in Scarville and Lake Mills Public Schools.
In 1952, Donna married Robert H. Brekken at West Prairie Lutheran Church on June 28. Donna and Robert had three children. The family were members at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Donna taught Sunday School, helped with VBS and participated in WELCA.
Donna is remembered by her children and grandchildren for her love of fishing, golfing, bowling and for making the best Cinnamon Raisin Bread. She enjoyed music and appreciated the concerts her son in law, Marv Krueger, played for her. She is also remembered for her beautiful smile that greeted her family each time they visited. Donna and Bob spent 26 years wintering in Texas and enjoying their summers at their lake side cabin in Wisconsin.
Donna is survived by her daughter, Julie (Marv) Krueger, Golden, Colo.; son, David (Lori) Brekken, Lake Mills; and daughter, Ann Stone, Indianapolis, Ind; seven grandchildren: Kyle (Kim) Krueger, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; Jason (Abbie) Brekken, Ham Lake, Minn,; Grant (Shannon) Brekken, Hudson, Wis.; Peter (Brittany) Brekken, Blaine, Minn.; Jake (McKenzie) Brekken, Mason City; and Chloe and Cameron Stone, Indianapolis, Ind.; and five great-grandchildren: Cole Mila Krueger, Liv, Ruby and Hallie Brekken; one brother, Gary (Sandy) Gunderson, Las Vegas, Nevada; one sister-in-law, Carolyn (Glen) Severson; and one brother-in-law, Richard (Deanna) Brekken.
