David L. Fjelstad
David L. Fjelstad, 77, Lake Mills, passed away suddenly Monday, May 9, 2022 at David’s Marketplace, Lake Mills. David was doing what he loved, cutting meat for the IKES steak feed.Visitation for David Fjelstad will be held Thursday, May 12, from 5-7 p.m. at Schott Funeral Homes-Mittelstadt Chapel, 902 E. Main St., Lake Mills. Private family services will be held.
David Leonard Fjelstad, son of Leonard and Evelyn (Groe) Fjelstad was born Nov. 27, 1944 in rural Lake Mills. He attended school in Lake Mills, graduating with the Class of 1963. David went on to take two more years of trade school, learning to become a meat cutter.
On March 17, 1964, David was united in marriage to Donna Timm in Oceanside, Calif. David and Donna were blessed with two children: Shellene and Scott. The family lived in California until 1978 when they moved back to Lake Mills.
David purchased Jerry’s Foodland from Jerry Stille and it became David’s, a longtime fixture in the community of Lake Mills.
Reliable, dependable, loving, and faithful are all words that describe David Fjelstad. He loved and adored his family-following Donna across the country to marry her, proudly attending all of the kids’ and grandkids’ events at school, planning family get-togethers for birthdays and holidays, and cooking for the Fjelstad clan whenever he could. His friends at the Izaak Walton could depend on him weekly for card games. He was faithful to his Lord, who strengthened him.
He will be missed greatly by his wife, Donna; daughter, Shellene (Rod) Norris; and son, Scott Fjelstad, all of Lake Mills; five grandchildren: Tony Norris, Ashlyn (Jerry) Morse, Addison Fjelstad, Grant Fjelstad, Laney Fjelstad; and one great-granddaughter, Everleigh Norris. He is also survived by a large, loving extended family including five siblings: Bonnie Steffens, Gary (Nancy) Fjelstad, Jim Fjelstad and Cynthia Fjelstad, all of Lake Mills; and Kathy Roush, Indianola; a brother-in-law, Don (Sylvia) Timm; sister-in-law, Dixie (Tom) Montano; a special uncle, Dick Vosburgh; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard in 1981, and Evelyn in 2013; a sister ,Mary Hamm; and two brothers-in-law: David Steffens, Sr. and Dennis Timm.
