Charlene Rhea Johnson Keltner
Charlene Rhea (Johnson) Keltner, 80, passed away Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017 at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 30, at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, with Pastor Melinda McCluskey and Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating.The burial will be at 2:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 30, in the Story City Municipal Cemetery, Story City, with Chaplain Sandy Anenson officiating.
Charlene Rhea (Johnson) Keltner was born June 16, 1937 in Story City, the daughter of Donald and Mazel (Thorson) Johnson.
She attended school at least four different high schools growing up and each of those schools have always invited her back for their class reunions. She graduated from Gilbert High School, Gilbert.
Family was very important to Char. She never missed a family event or reunion. She would go anywhere for her grandchildren’s programs, even if they would only last a few minutes. She was an avid game player. It didn’t matter what time of day it was or what the game was, Bingo, Bunko, board games and cards. Char was a member of many different bridge clubs over the years and enjoyed every minute of her time spent with friends.
Char had an eye for decorating. She sold Home Interiors for many years. She retired from Fleetguard/Cummins industries in 2004.
In June of this year, Char moved to Bethany Life Care Center, Story City, where she made many new friends.
Char is survived by her daughter, Jodie (Geoffrey) Anderson, Leland; her son, Lance (Angie) Keltner, Story City; grandchildren: Garrett (Sara) Anderson, Leland; Jennifer Anderson, Forest City; Cole Keltner and Kailee Keltner both of Story City; great-grandchildren: Jakobe, Gavin and Sydney Anderson; brothers: Steve (Marcy) Johnson, Ames; and Gary (Marion) Johnson, Story City; aunts: Iona Lenning, Ames; and Joyce Johnson, Oden, Minn.; a very special cousin, Virginia Egemo; along with several nieces, nephews, other cousins, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
