Barbara A. Martinson Vermedahl
Barbara A. (Martinson) Vermedahl, 68, Lake Mills, passed away Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021 at MercyOne Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Lake Mills, with Father Joseph Sevcik officiating. Inurnment will take place in St. Theodore’s Catholic Cemetery in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Visitation for Barb will be held Wednesday, Sept. 15, from 5-7 p.m. at Schott Funeral Homes Mittelstadt Chapel, Lake Mills.
Barbara Ann (Martinson) Vermedahl was born Aug. 27, 1953 in Albert Lea, Minn., to parents LeRoy and Mary “Betty” (Lair) Martinson. She was baptized in Albert Lea, Minn. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Twin Lakes, Minn., and most recently St. Patrick’s, Lake Mills. She was a member of the Emmons American Legion Auxiliary.
Barb attended and graduated from Emmons High School in 1971.
Throughout her life, Barb had worked at various jobs including the Albert Lea Chamber of Commerce, Shopko, Farmer’s Co-op Elevator in Lake Mills, and the Iowa Ethanol Plant in Hanlontown. However, her favorite occupation was “Grandma.” Barb was the family’s biggest cheerleader and gave the best hugs. She loved her family deeply and cherished every moment she was able to spend with them.
Survivors include her two children: Kari (Jeffrey) Jorth, Omaha, Neb.; and Jon (Tina) Vermedahl, Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren: Jaxson Jorth, Carter Jorth, Mackenzie Vermedahl and Sydney Vermedahl; a sister, Mary Sorenson, Lake Mills; three brothers: Mike (Jane) Martinson, Emmons, Minn.; Danny (Becky) Martinson, Joice; and Mark (Laurie) Martinson, Eagan, Minn.; an uncle, Pat Lair, Albert Lea, Minn.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother-in-law, Paul Sorenson.
