Arlene L. Ingebritson
Arlene L. Ingebritson, 91, Lake Mills, passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016 at the Lake Mills Care Center. Funeral service was held Thursday, Oct. 13, at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, with Pastor Melinda McCluskey officiating. Burial was held in Oakland Cemetery, Forest City. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Humane Society of North Iowa, 2700 Birch Drive SE, Mason City. Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, was in charge of arrangements.
Arlene Lorraine Halvorson was born Oct. 17, 1924 at Fertile, to parents Henry and Cora (Revland) Halvorson. She attended and graduated from Fertile High School, and went on to attend Waldorf College and received her teaching degree from Mankato State University.
Arlene was united in marriage with Lloyd Milton Thorsheim, and the couple made their home in Leland for many years. They were blessed with two children: Kendra and Kevin. Lloyd passed away in 1991.
She was a beloved teacher in Forest City and Leland, who possessed immeasurable musical talent. Arlene played the trumpet, piano, and church organ, as well as devoted her time as choir director at Our Savior’s Church in Leland and organist at the United Methodist Church in Forest City. She was also an artist, enjoyed cooking and baking, loved reading and traveling, and truly cherished her dog Tipper.
Later in life, Arlene and Palmer Ingebritson were married. The couple lived in Lake Mills where Arlene was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church.
Arlene is survived by her two children: Kendra Berkeland, Apple Valley, Minn.; and Kevin (Maria) Thorsheim, Forest City; seven grandchildren: Tor (Katie) Berkeland, Andy (Nicole) Berkeland, Maggie (John) O’Connell, David (Donna) Cardosa, Felipe (Teka) Gonzalez, Jenna (Heath) Waymire, and Kristofer Thorsheim; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Laurie Smit, Sheffield; sister-in-law, Elaine Ingebritson, Lake Mills; and several nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd in 1991; husband, Palmer in 2003; an infant son, Thomas; son-in-law, Mark Berkeland; a sister and her husband, Dorothy and Lloyd Gudmonson; and brother-in-law, Gene Smit.
