Ardythe Ellen Waldrop
Ardythe Ellen Waldrop, 74, Owatonna, Minn., passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Homestead Hospice House. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home today (Wednesday), from 5-8 p.m. and at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thursday, July 13, from 10-11 a.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Amanda Weinkauf officiating. Memorials are preferred to Owatonna Public Library, Owatonna School District 761 Foundation or to the donor’s choice.
Ardythe was born Nov. 26, 1942 in Joice, the daughter of Melvin and Margret (Patterson) Furness. Ardi graduated from Joice High School in 1960.
After high school, she moved to Chicago, Ill., where she worked for Western Union. She attended secretary school in Nebraska prior to working for DeLuxe Products, Lake Mills.
Ardi married Jerald Waldrop Feb. 25, 1962 in Joice. The couple moved to Owatonna, Minn., where she continued working for Western Union for another four years and they started a family together.
With their own hands, Jerry and Ardi built the house where they lived for 45 years. She worked for the Owatonna School District for 36 years, primarily at McKinley Elementary school as a teachers’ aide and secretary. She loved raising her family and working with children in the school district. Ardi enjoyed time with her family, grandkids, and her great-granddaughter. She loved traveling and reading. She also liked playing bridge and electronic games with friends.
She is survived by her husband, Jerald Waldrop, Owatonna, Minn.; daughters: Michelle (Edward) Tarka, Northfield, Minn.; Marsha (Bobby Jon) Elliot, Hastings, Minn.; son, Shannon (Carrie) Waldrop, Eagan, Minn.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Mark Furness, Owatonna, Minn.; sister, Patty (Marvin) Abbott, Forest City; Martha Furness, Madrid; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Nancy Furness; niece, Jennifer Furness; and nephew, Joel Furness.
