Alf Norman Faugstad

March 5, 1937 – May 17, 2020

Alf Norman Faugstad, 83, Emmons, Minn., was called to his heavenly home Sunday, May 17, 2020, at the Lake Mills Care Center. Due to state and federal guidance concerning COVID-19, a private funeral and committal will take place at the Scarville Synod Lutheran Church and Cemetery. The live stream of the funeral will be on the church’s Facebook page at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 21. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Scarville Synod Lutheran Church and School.
Norman Faugstad, son of Nels and Aasa (Stanghelle) Faugstad, was born March 5, 1937, at Naeve Hospital, Albert Lea, Minn. He was baptized into the Christian faith and later confirmed at the Scarville Synod Lutheran Church. He attended Bethany Lutheran High School and graduated in 1955. After high school, he returned to work on the family farm in rural Emmons.
Norman was united in marriage to Adela (Halverson) on June 5, 1964, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Luverne, Minn. Norman and Adela Faugstad were blessed with five children. Norman farmed with his brothers, Arnold and Conrad, and eventually took over the family farm until his retirement. In retirement he took an interest in woodworking.
Norman was active in his church serving on the school board, as a trustee, a treasurer, and an elder. He was a faithful supporter of Lutheran education both in the Scarville Synod Christian Day School and Bethany Lutheran College. He served as a delegate to numerous synod conventions over the years.  
Norman enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Adela and their children: Mark (Marlene) Faugstad, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; Naomi Barrott, Burnsville, Minn.; Jonathan (Michele) Faugstad, Scarville; Lisa (Charles) Charlson, Rogers, Minn.; and Sarah (Aaron) Sweney, Brunswick, Ohio; 16 grandchildren: Rebekah (Christopher) Mueller, Jesse (Andrea) Faugstad, Marta (Luke) Johnson, Aaron Faugstad, Julia (Benjamin) Ulrich, Hannah Barrott, Sophia (Scott) Abbey, Timothy (Jayde) Faugstad, Mia Faugstad, Victoria Charlson, Hailey Charlson, Niles Charlson, Jenna Charlson, Corrin Charlson, Rory Sweney, and Toby Sweney; eight great-grandchildren: Emmaline, Lydia, Abigail, Christopher, and Samuel Mueller; Anders and Karsten Faugstad; and Ada Abbey; sisters-in-law: Esther Faugstad, Louise (Harlan) Burley, Phyllis (Robert) Kruger, and Margaret (Jerry) Sims; and brothers-in-law: Stanley (Linda) Halverson and Gary (Jean) Halverson.  
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law: Nels and Camilla Faugstad; brothers: Arnold Faugstad and Conrad Faugstad; sister and brother-in-law, Signe and Harry Olson; and brother-in-law, Arnold Halverson.
