Rolling on through Lake Mills last Wednesday, was the American Legion Legacy Ride—a group of several hundred motorcyclists riding for a cause.
The American Legacy Ride, revved  up in Hutchinson, Kansas, traveling over 1,100 miles in five states—Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota—beginning Aug. 19, and ending up in Minneapolis, Minn., for the American Legion 2018 National Convention’s 100th Anniversary.
Along the route, the group of American Legion motorcyclists took part in numerous wreath-laying ceremonies and cemetery services honoring America’s fallen veterans. One of those stops was at Graceland Cemetery, Albert Lea, Minn., where the riders stopped for a short prayer service for Corey Goodnature, who died in service to our country, June 28, 2005 and is laid to rest in that cemetery.
Since 2002, when the cross country Legacy Ride began, the riders have raised over 13 million dollars in scholarships for children whose parents were U.S. military personnel that died on active duty post 9/11.
“These American Legion rides are a good deal,” said Dave Anderson, Lake Mills Otto Chose Post #235 Commander. “The money goes to a good cause.” Anderson was able to watch as the continuous trail of riders passed by his gas station at the corner of Main and N. Lake St., and turn north on Highway 69, heading to Albert Lea.
