Waldorf University to host 24-hour Read-A-Thon

Waldorf University will be hosting a 24-hour Read-A-Thon starting at 5 p.m., Monday, Feb. 5, and ending at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 6, in the lounge of the Luise V. Hanson Library. The event is co-sponsored by the Warriors Writing Club and the Waldorf Library.
“The Read-A-Thon is a fun way to celebrate literature and writing,” said Ryan Clark, Waldorf University Assistant Professor of English. “The Warriors Writing Club is very enthusiastic about this event and we appreciate the partnerships we’ve formed with the Library to hold this 24-hour reading marathon.”
Throughout the 24-hours, there will be themed reading hours ranging from scary stories to children’s books to a public reading of original work from members of the Warriors Writing Club. Readers will take turns in 15-minute shifts reading aloud from books and from their own creative writing.
“Personally, I love to read, and as a poet I love to read my work to an audience,” Clark said. “The Writing Club similarly holds this passion for writing and sharing their work, and for providing opportunities for others to share their work or to share the kinds of books and authors they enjoy reading. The marathon element adds a fun element of challenge that, while difficult, can be very rewarding.”
The public is invited to participate in this event.
For more information, including information on how to sign up for a reading slot, please contact either Ryan Clark at ryan.clark@waldorf.edu or Waldorf University Library Director Derrick Burton at derrick.burton@waldorf.edu. A sign-up board will be available in the library leading up to the event, and anyone is welcome to sign up and participate.
