Stamp out Hunger May 12

Lake Mills Letter Carrier, Janice Johnson, (pictured) holds a donation bag of food items, reminding city and rural postal patrons of the annual “National Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive,” Saturday, May 12. Postal customers served by the Lake Mills U.S. Postal Service will be given the opportunity to contribute food items to the Lake Mills Food Shelf. Last year, over 1840 pounds of food was donated from the food drive.
City and rural postal customers are encouraged to leave a bag of non-perishable foods at their mailbox. Food collected by the letter carriers with the assistance by Lake Mills Boy Scout Troop 44, will be brought to the Lake Mills Food Shelf which serves families living in the Lake Mills School District served by Lake Mills area churches.
Food items that are always needed are: baked or pork n’ beans, vegetables, beef stew, chili, soups. spam, tuna, hamburger helper, peaches, pears, pasta noodles, rice, peanut butter, cold cereal, and paper products. Of course, the Food Shelf will accept all donations. However, please check that food items have not reached their expiration date or been previously opened.
Post cards will be mailed out as “save the date” reminders to postal customers in the weeks leading up to the drive. Plastic bags will be delivered to postal patrons to place food items in, but any household plastic shopping bag will work.
