Sesquicentennial meeting held

The Lake Mills Sesquicen-tennial committee met Wednesday, March 13, at 5 p.m. in the LMCDC office. Plans are being finalized for the celebration to be held July Jubilee weekend, July 11-14.
The parade route was approved by the City Council and will proceed west down E. Main St., south on Lake St., and east on S. 10th Ave., where floats can leave town or return to the Leonard Fjelstad Sports Complex to dismantle.
A “Chamber Kick-Off”  Battle of the Businesses was discussed for Thursday, July 11, with minute-to-win-it type games.
A ferris wheel will be set up downtown Lake Mills, Friday and Saturday.
The community night will host free kids’ activities, inflatables and live music downtown. Bands for Friday will include Nate and the Moonlighters and the Mill Street Band, with Dietrich DJ to help emcee. There will be fireworks Friday at dusk on the west side of town, visible from Main St. and Popcorn Hill, so the crowd won’t have to leave to watch the display.
Bands for Saturday evening include Next 2 Nothing and Pop Rocks.
The Murphy Brothers Band has been booked for Sunday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Trivia fundraising events are being held at 5 Alarm Brewing the first Sunday of the month from 2-4 p.m. (April 7, May 5, and June 2).
There are still 16 open spaces on the Lake Mills-opoly board, with a deadline of April 5 to reserve a space. The games will be delivered around July 3.
The committee brainstormed some ideas about merchandise to be sold prior to, and the weekend of, the celebration. These ideas included t-shirts, tank tops, sweatshirts, hats, blankets, pillows, mugs, keychains, stickers, pop sockets, and commemorative pottery items from Redwing, Minn.
The next meeting date for April is to be determined.
